Things people actually ask us.
Organised the way our notice-board mailbox is organised. If your question isn't here, drop us a line, every question we get more than twice ends up on this page.
Applying for a grant
Who can apply?
Any Nigerian citizen or legal resident who meets the specific eligibility criteria of an open cycle. Each cycle has its own rules. Education requires proof of admission, Business requires a registered business name or active operation, Skill Up has no formal requirement. Read the eligibility section on the grant detail page before paying the fee.
How long does an application take?
Around 10–15 minutes if you've read the cycle's eligibility rules in advance. The form is a single page with autosave, so you can step away and come back without losing progress.
Can I apply to more than one cycle at the same time?
Yes, as long as the cycles are different categories. Applying to multiple cycles in the same category in the same quarter will get one of them rejected at intake.
If I'm declined, can I reapply next cycle?
Yes. Past applications are not held against you, each cycle is scored fresh. We do read with knowledge of what's already been awarded, so if you've been funded recently we'll factor that in.
Is there a deadline buffer?
No. Cycle closes at the stated WAT time on the stated day, and no late submissions are accepted. We post deadline reminders on the notice board 48 hours and 12 hours before close.
Fees and discounts
How much does it cost to apply?
Between ₦500 and ₦1,000 per cycle, it's set per cycle and shown on the grant detail page before you commit. We run discount codes during launch periods that can bring this down or waive it.
What are discount codes and where do I get them?
Discount codes reduce or waive the application fee. We're currently running CASHOGI50 (50% off, first 200 applicants) to mark the launch. Codes are posted on the notice board the day they go live, subscribe to the digest to be first to know.
Can I use multiple discount codes?
One code per application. The form will show the discounted fee in the summary before you pay. If we run stacking promos in future they'll be flagged on the notice board.
Where does my fee actually go?
97% goes into the next cycle's grant pool. 1.5% covers the Paystack transaction fee. 1.5% covers operations, hosting, WhatsApp messaging, bank reconciliation. The full ledger is published on the notice board within 7 days of each cycle closing.
Is the fee refundable if I'm declined?
No. The fees are pooled at intake and disbursed as the next cycle's grants, by the time a decision is made, the money has already moved. We're upfront about this before you pay.
How decisions are made
Who decides who gets the grant?
The Cashogi team. Every application is scored against the four published criteria, the strongest applications get a closer read from the team, and the founder signs off the final recipient.
How long until I get a decision?
Within 14 days of the cycle closing. Decisions land via WhatsApp from the official Cashogi number. Successful applicants also get an email asking for bank details for disbursement.
What do you actually score?
Four things: (1) clarity of need, is the use of funds specific and credible, (2) demonstrated need, the circumstances behind the request, (3) potential impact, what this grant could unlock, and (4) ambition, the longer-term picture. The criteria and weighting are published on every grant detail page.
How do you keep the review fair?
Names are redacted during scoring so reviewers see the essay, the stated need, and the category, not who wrote it. Every application is scored against the four published criteria. Final decisions are signed off by the founder, and we keep the score and our notes for audit.
Can I see the reasoning if I'm declined?
We share a one-paragraph summary on request, usually weakest score area and a short suggestion for next time. We don't share individual scoresheets to protect honest internal feedback.
Receiving the grant
How is the grant paid out?
Direct transfer via Paystack to a Nigerian bank account in your own name. We don't disburse to a third party. The transfer typically lands within 7 days of decision, sometimes the same day.
Can the grant be paid in tranches?
By default, no, the full award lands in one transfer. If you'd prefer a tranche schedule (e.g. termly tuition), email programs@cashogi.ng after acceptance and we'll arrange it.
Do I owe anything back?
No. Grants are not loans. They are gifts of money, with one obligation: a one-line receipt within 30 days showing what the grant was used for. That's it.
Do I have to share my story publicly?
Never required. Most recipients say yes to a story on the recipients page, but it's always optional, and we publish anonymously by default if you prefer.
Trust and safety
How do I know this isn't a scam?
Fair question. Three things: (1) every fee runs through Paystack, which means every transaction is auditable, (2) every cycle's ledger will be published publicly on the notice board, and (3) our team is named on the About page with real photos and real roles. We'd rather be small and trustworthy than fast and opaque.
What if Paystack flags my payment?
Paystack occasionally challenges payments for fraud-prevention reasons. If yours is flagged, your application is held in a pending state, you'll get a WhatsApp message within a few hours, and the fee is auto-refunded if it fully fails. No application is lost.
Who are your partners?
Right now, just Paystack, our payment rail. We're a new platform and we'd rather grow our partner list honestly than name organisations we don't yet work with. When new partners come on board, they'll be announced on the notice board.
Can my organisation partner with Cashogi?
Yes, we're open to fee-subsidy partners, category sponsors, and capacity partners. Email partnerships@cashogi.ng with a brief on what you'd like to support and at what scale, and we'll come back to you within a week.
Account and data
Do I need an account to apply?
No account, no password. We identify each applicant by WhatsApp number, that's how decisions reach you, and how discount codes are anti-abuse checked.
What data do you keep, and for how long?
Your application essay, contact details, and decision are kept for 18 months after a cycle closes for audit. After that, identifying details are stripped and only anonymised statistics remain. You can request earlier deletion.
Will my WhatsApp number be spammed?
No. We message you exactly twice per cycle you apply to, a receipt at submission, and a decision at close. Outside of that, only if you opt into the broadcast list.
We read every email.
If your question isn't covered and it isn't urgent, email us. We answer within two business days. For urgent, WhatsApp the official line.
